About
These posts are written by John Hartigan Jr, Professor of anthropology and Director of the Americo Paredes Center for Cultural Studies at the University of Texas, Austin. This blog is my effort to keep up with the simultaneously repetitive yet ever-changing ways we talk about race in this country. In my book, What Can You Say? America’s National Conversation on Race, I write about how this interesting, unusual conversation works, relating both its historical development and its ongoing permutations. Since the conversation is ongoing, though, this blog is my means of offering more current perspective on how we talk (and what we don’t say) about race in this country. Please let me know what you think.
